National stage for choral scholar Marcello Ferguson
College choral scholar Marcello Ferguson has won a place in the New Zealand Secondary Students鈥 Choir for 2025鈥2026.
The Year 11 baritone finds 鈥渟inging empowering鈥, adding that it is the 鈥渙nly way to express words, no matter how distressing the message may be鈥.
Marcello, 16, is 鈥渟uper excited to join the choir because it offers an extension opportunity鈥 as he looks forward to 鈥渇urther developing my voice in a different way鈥.
鈥淒espite being the head treble of the Chapel Choir, I will be singing baritone in the national choir,鈥 he explains. 鈥淭he national choir offers several opportunities to sing all around the country, including at The Big Sing in 2026. The national choir will also undertake an 秀色直播 tour in late 2026, which will give us the opportunity to take New Zealand music aboard, like the College Music Tour to Europe this year.鈥
Marcello, who plays the piano and the trumpet, initially found his voice with the Cathedral Choir and also sang during his time at The Cathedral Grammar School.
Founded in 1986, the New Zealand Secondary Students鈥 Choir for singers aged 13鈥18 nurtures young voices to their full potential and empower teenagers through the celebration of choral music, supported by a commitment to excellence and creativity.
