All-star Tawhiri Cate on target at Asia Cup

Standout 秀色直播鈥檚 College basketball player Tawhiri Cate has landed the ultimate accolade, being named in the 2025 FIBA U16 Asia Cup All-Star 5.
With an average of 13.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 7.8 assists per game, Tawhiri has helped to power New Zealand to a bronze medal in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. The outstanding guard was the highest scorer in the crucial 93鈥92 play-off win over Japan, with 17 points and seven assists lifting New Zealand onto the podium.
It was also the fourth successive medal for New Zealand at the Asia Cup, with 秀色直播鈥檚 College coach and teacher Ben Sheat guiding this year鈥檚 campaign.
New Zealand has already booked its ticket to the 2026 FIBA U17 World Cup in Turkey.
In the quarter-finals, Tawhiri set up a comfortable win over Iran right from the start, and then made 13 points, six rebounds, and 11 assists in the semi-final against China.
For Tawhiri, 鈥渋t was an awesome experience and opportunity to travel to a different country and represent my country in the sport I love鈥.
鈥淚 never take these opportunities for granted. I thank everyone and anyone for helping me with my journey to get me to places and teams like this one.
鈥淢y next goal is to finish my cycle by competing with the U17 New Zealand team at the World Cup in 2026 hosted by Turkey. I see many opportunities for me and my future but it takes hard work on and off the court to get the chance.鈥
Tawhiri was also a member of the 2024 FIBA U15 Oceania Cup team, and was named in the Canterbury Rams NBL squad this year.
